Pete's Grill
About This Spot
Stepping into Pete's Grill on a bustling street corner in downtown Petersburg feels like slipping into a familiar rhythm of an old-school lunch counter. This is a place where time moves at its own steady pace—a blend of warm chatter, sizzling grills, and friendly nods from familiar faces behind the counter. The crowd is a mix of longtime locals and curious visitors, all drawn by the unmistakable charm of a spot that's been quietly weaving itself into the fabric of the community for decades.
The atmosphere here is unpretentious and welcoming, a true hometown refuge from the fast pulse of city life. Whether you’re ordering at the takeout window or sliding onto a stool inside, there’s a sense of being part of a shared routine, where the focus is on satisfying, hearty food served with genuine care. The steady clatter of dishes, the richer aromas of ketchup, mustard, and freshly cooked onions, and the friendly greetings exchanged all add a comforting layer to the experience.
At Pete’s Grill, the menu feels like a nostalgic trip through classic American diner fare with a twist of hometown pride. You’ll find the kind of uncomplicated, well-executed dishes that become staples in a small community—the kind you crave on a morning that calls for a bacon sandwich served just right, or a chili hotdog that’s topped with exactly what you remember from childhood. When the cheeseburger deluxe comes out, grilled with care and paired with crispy fries and slaw, it’s easy to see why generations keep coming back.
What truly sets this place apart is the quiet continuity it offers. Longtime staff members have watched the neighborhood change around them, yet inside Pete’s Grill, the hospitality remains constant and heartfelt. It’s a rare combination of comfort and authenticity, where the food, the people, and the place come together to tell a story of enduring community and simple pleasures.

The bomb cheeseburger. I have been coming to this restaurant since 2003 I used to bring my children here. It was always a good deal period of course back then it was slightly cheaper. They've got great customer service and the same waitress is still there after all these years. I'm definitely going to recommend this place and I'm going to keep coming back

Great chili dogs priced right left happy... Staff is amazing happy and helpful... Only drawback is downtown Petersburg is an awful location parking sucks, homeless people lingering around sucks. Otherwise this is a special small ma pop shop worth stopping by!

This is an old time lunch counter style diner. You get exactly that and it’s worth the visit. I had “3 all the way”. Food was good and the prices were extremely reasonable. You can walk up to the “take out” window or come inside and dine.

No frills American Diner food. Chili dogs and burgers are prepared right in front of you in an old-timey kitchen. Love it!

Hometown place has been feeding me for 50+ years...since they opened. Great chili dogs. Original owners have retired and fortunately one of the family members has taken over and renamed the business. A downtown Petersburg staple. I always try to stop by when visiting my hometown.

A friend and I went there yesterday, (02/15/2023). The service was great and the hotdogs even better. Being born and raised in Petersburg, they reminded me of the ole days when Louie Placard ran the Dixie Restaurant back in the 50's and 60's. Parking can sometimes be difficult but it's well worth it.
